Lagom and Hygge—From Sharing a Fika to a Deep Sleep

The ATELIER SNU by PAN MATERAC showroom hosted an event dedicated to the Scandinavian approach to rest, in which simplicity, comfort, and balance form the foundation of good sleep and daily functioning. The evening event, “Lagom and Hygge—From Shared Fika to Deep Sleep,” combined expert knowledge, inspiration from the worlds of design, sports, and business, and the opportunity to experience the presented solutions firsthand. The event’s hosts, Małgorzata Nycz-Zielińska and Andrzej Franków, emphasized that ATELIER SNU by PAN MATERAC is not just a retail space, but above all a place where sleep meets design and lifestyle.

Sleep Tailored to Your Lifestyle

On a daily basis, the staff help customers choose solutions that match their individual needs and daily habits. During the event, special emphasis was placed on the experience itself—participants were free to sit, relax, and even lie down on the products available in the showroom. This approach allowed them to see firsthand how differences in design, ergonomics, and materials affect the comfort of rest. At ATELIER SNU, theory thus met practice, and choosing the right solutions became part of a conscious process of discovering one’s own needs.

The Biological Basis of Scandinavian Hygge

One of the highlights of the evening was a conversation with Dr. Aleksandra Karykowska, focusing on the biological aspects of the Scandinavian philosophy of rest. The expert explained how seemingly simple principles related to daily lifestyle can influence the processes occurring in the body during sleep.

Among the topics discussed were the phenomenon of “nighttime wars”—that is, sleep problems faced by couples—and the Scandinavian Sleep Method, a solution that allows rest conditions to be better tailored to the individual needs of partners. The conversation also touched on “biological Hygge.” A properly prepared bedroom is not only a cozy space but also involves the right temperature, a light stomach before bed, and what is known as a “clear mind.”

“Sleep on it”—what happens in the brain while we sleep?

Dr. Aleksandra Karykowska also explained why, after a good night’s sleep, difficult situations often seem easier to resolve. Using the Scandinavian saying “Soava poe soakyen” as an example, participants learned how the brain processes information, organizes experiences, and supports processes related to memory and problem-solving while we sleep.

There was also time for reflection on the challenges faced by residents of the North. A chronic lack of sunlight makes it particularly important to consciously maintain a circadian rhythm and practice good sleep hygiene. Scandinavian daily life thus served as a starting point for a discussion about principles that can support the quality of rest regardless of latitude.

Carpe Diem Beds – The Bed as Part of Your Daily Routine

A significant part of the event was also devoted to Swedish craftsmanship and design philosophy. Radosław Jędrzejczyk presented the Carpe Diem Beds brand, for which a bed is not just a piece of bedroom furniture, but an element of interior architecture and a daily ritual of rest. Natural materials, artisanal precision, and solutions designed with comfort in mind define the brand’s distinctive approach to sleep quality.

Attendees had the opportunity to explore the Iconic Collection and Premium Collection, as well as the features that set Carpe Diem Beds apart, including five patented technologies. ATELIER SNU by PAN MATERAC is the only place in Poland where visitors can view and test the brand’s products in person, which aligns perfectly with the event’s philosophy centered on hands-on experience.

A Masterful Reset—Recovery as Part of Success

Mateusz Kusznierewicz also spoke about how sleep and rest affect daily performance. During his presentation titled “A Champion’s Reset,” the Olympic champion and entrepreneur argued that success does not depend solely on the starting point, hard work, or making the right decisions. Equally important is the ability to recover and consciously take a break.

One of his more personal examples was his admission that, no matter where he’s traveling, he always brings his own pillow—even if it takes up half his suitcase. He also presented his approach to motivation using a simple formula: M = [A × P] + Z + N, where motivation stems from the attractiveness of the goal, the probability of achieving it, available resources, and experiences related to setbacks. From this perspective, sleep becomes one of the key resources for maintaining energy and effectiveness over the long term.

Scandinavia Experienced Through All the Senses

The evening at ATELIER SNU was designed as a multisensory experience of Swedish culture. From the very beginning, guests were accompanied by music with a Scandinavian vibe, and a key element of the social gathering was a shared dinner inspired by the idea of spending time together. There was also ample opportunity to freely test the collections available at Atelier, allowing participants to literally “feel” the Carpe Diem Beds philosophy.

The event concluded with the presentation of gifts to participants described as “sweet, comfortable, and pleasant,” intended to help them bring the atmosphere of the event and the principles of good sleep into their own homes. The entire event demonstrated that caring for your bedroom and the quality of your rest is not a whim, but a conscious investment in your daily well-being, energy, and productivity. The Scandinavian philosophies of Lagom and Hygge thus became an inspiration for finding one’s own balance—both in the bedroom and in everyday life.
